Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born 12 November 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now OnestiGheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onesti] Romania). She was the first to be the first athlete to get a perfect 10 on an Olympic occasion. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi, later to be the Romanian gymnastics coach when she was only six years old. Comaneci was the first to compete for time in the 1969 National junior championships. She finished 13th. In the following year, she won the title of champion. In her first international competition in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior event for countries of the communist bloc she was awarded three gold medals as well as in 1973 and 1974 she was an all-around junior champion. Her first competitive event with a senior team in 1975 she beat the Russian Lyudmila Turishcheva the five-time European champion winning four gold medals as well as one silver. She was also the first female athlete to perform the reverse double salo of the bar with a parallel unevenness as part of her demount. She won the title at the American Cup, held in New York City. At the age of 13 she began appearing in travel shows like Ice Capades as a skater as well as her younger sibling Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne, born in Chicago Illinois US on 6 September 1942. Carol began her journey into the entertainment business in her teens. Her first job was as a figure skater performing with her cousin Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show known as Ice Capades. The show featured dramatized ice skating performances.
