The father of Jennifer Garner, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer for Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local college. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she completed a chemical engineering degree. In order to achieve her dream of becoming an actress, she moved into New York. Chefs were employed at the restaurant in New York, and was a part of Broadway productions. Garner was a small part in the film "Felicity" (where she also came into contact with Scott Foley).
