Jennifer Garner was born on April 17, 1972, from Houston, Texas but was born within Charleston, West Virginia. The father of Jennifer Garner, William John Garner, was a chemical engineer for Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local college. In order to follow in the footsteps of her father, she completed a chemical engineering degree. In order to achieve her dream of becoming an actress, she moved into New York. Chefs were employed at the restaurant in New York, and was a part of Broadway productions. Garner was a small part in the film "Felicity" (where she also came into contact with Scott Foley). Garner had her breakthrough in"the romantic comedy "13 Going on 30" where she played a teenager trapped in an adult's body. Garner picked Gary Winick, who directed the film. They worked together in search of other projects following his death. Garner earned the honorary title of the artist ambassador in 2009 by Save the Children U.S.A. The role includes promoting national nutritional literacy, education and early learning. Garner was named to the board of directors of this non-profit organisation in 2014. Garner advocates for early developmental stages of children. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits often with the families who participate in Early Steps to School Success the program which trains parents on how to help the children in learning.
